Snowmass, Colorado: 9min 30sec of Devastation
July 18th, 2007 by Luigi

mario-snowmass-07-2.gif    He was surrounded, but just for a moment, then he hit hard, as a lightning bolt strikes the ground. His hug into the first pedal stroke with power pushed by determination, kicked up some dirt and never looked back, no rear view mirrors on his bike. The following is what he had to say about the race.

Hell Yeah!

That’s all I’ve got to say. Hell Yeah!

This past weekend was Blast The Mass in Snowmass, Colorado. Kickass race like usual, it’s another one of my favorite courses. Hard fire road uphill with some single track mixed in a some awesome singletrack descents. I raced it last year and took a third place finish.. not this year. I took 1st place with 2nd finishing 9 minutes and 30 seconds behind me. I completed in the 7.5 miles in just over 46 min. Not bad but could have been faster. I was too damn tired for it.

Go to the new State Champion’s blog to read on and see race photos.

PCC Rocks Blast The Mass
By: Mario B Chiarani and Alaine B Chiarani

On July 14, 2007 three riders from Platte Canyon Cycling, Mario Chiarani, Phillip Ward, and Steven Bieri, competed in the fourth race in the Mountain States Cup Series in Snowmass, Colorado. All three riders were challenged by the seven and a half mile loop. Half of the course was composed of one long fire road ascent and the other half composed of single track descents littered with stream crossings and plenty of rocks and roots. Mario Chiarani came in 1st place, towering nine minutes and thirty seconds ahead of the second place finisher. This crowns Mario the state champion and a chance to compete in the Snowmass Nationals held later in the season. Phillip Ward, crashing on the final descent of the course took a 3rd place finish only mere seconds behind the second place finisher. Steven Bieri placed 5th, even though he had two crashes on the descent of the course. As a result, Mario, Phillip, and Steven all qualify to race in the Snowmass Nationals sponsored by Cycle Cyndicate. All three riders competed in the Junior Beginner Male 15-18 category.

Please join PCC on Monday’s at the Mt. Bailey Coffee Shack for a road ride with team members and coach John Gerritsen. We meet at 3:45 pm and leave about 4:00 pm. Please keep in mind this practice is not for the faint of heart. PCC also has a practice every Thursday at the school property on Rosalie road. This practice is for the first time rider up to the veteran racer. Practice starts at 4:00 pm. Remember to always bring water and a helmet with you on these rides.

Riding tip #1: Always ride with a friend. Riding tip #2: You always carry a map when riding in areas unknown to you our your riding partner
